The misconduct of Facebook-Cambridge Analytica Scandal: The Plot Thickens
Upon releasing the circumstances of the scandal conducted by Cambridge Analytica and their abuse of Facebook, the details have altered a bit. The “report on the matter” has reported the investigation clearly with honest and truth by claiming that this misuse is not accepted and such case should not be repeated ever again. You will now find many answers to clues that were never published regarding how Facebook takes care of your information.
Analytica Offices blamed by UK Regulators
On the last week of March, the Guardian reported that examiners from Britain’s information guard dog had spent about seven hours looking through the London workplaces of Cambridge Analytica. It is trusted that a sum of 18 law implementation authorities entered the Cambridge Analytica base camp in London’s West End on Friday night to look through the premises after the Information Commissioner’s Office (ICO) was conceded a warrant to inspect its records. A representative for the ICO expressed:
“This is just one part of a larger investigation into the use of personal data and analytics for political purposes.”
Dr. Alexander Tayler responded by mentioning:
“I am sorry that, in 2014, SCL Elections (an affiliate of Cambridge Analytica) licensed Facebook data from a research company [GSR] that had not received consent from respondents…The company believed the data had been obtained in line with Facebook’s terms of service and data protection laws. We are now undertaking an independent, third-party audit to verify that we do not hold any GSR data.”
And he added that:
“He was at the company for less than a year, after which he was made the subject of restraining undertakings to prevent his misuse of the company’s intellectual property while attempting to set up his own rival firm.”
To focus on the fact that Christopher Wylie has no substantial knowledge of their work practice.
SMS and Calls info are collected by Facebook
Smartphones allows Facebook to collect SMS and call metadata as many users download an archive of their Facebook data during the scandal. Information like the duration of the call, the start time, and the caller are gathered. Moreover, all of the SMS messages are also collected unless the newly sent messages.
In a press statement, Facebook replied back to these accusations by stating:
“Call and text history logging is part of an opt-in feature for people using Messenger or Facebook Lite on Android. This helps you find and stay connected with the people you care about and provide you with a better experience on Facebook. People have to expressly agree to use this feature. If at any time, they no longer wish to use this feature they can turn it off in settings, or here for Facebook Lite users, and all previously shared call and text history shared via that app is deleted. While we receive certain permissions from Android, uploading this information has always been opt-in only.”
Which is unlike how many users experienced.
